LIVE: SABC board faces Parliament to account for Hlaudi's re-appointment

The SABC (South African Broadcasting Corporation) board appears before Members of Parliament on Wednesday to account for the re-appointment of Hlaudi Motsoeneng.

Motsoeneng was re-appointed as Group Executive for Corporate Affairs after he was removed from his position as Chief Operations Officer. This followed a Supreme Court of Appeal dismissal of Hlaudi's leave to appeal the Western Cape High Court ruling that his appointment as COO was invalid.

In recent developments, the African National Congress NEC (National Executive Committee) called on the board to remove Motsoeneng. However, Motsoeneng has hit back at criticisms over the issue, saying he's the "engine of the SABC".

Communications Minister, Faith Muthambi, and members of opposition parties are attending the meeting held by the Parliamentary portfolio committee of communications.
