Is Julius Malema hinting at ANC EFF merger?

During eNCA current affairs TV programme Checkpoint, leader of the EFF Julius Malema appeared to be suggesting that he could merge the party with the African National Congress (ANC).

Political analyst Ralph Mathekga, says Malema sounded like he had a personal agenda to achieve.

Malema prefaced many of his statements with 'I' during the interview, 'I will do this' and 'I will do that', rather than speaking for the EFF as a whole, noted the analyst.

It sounds like a personal drive, It could cause a lot of division within the EFF.

I have no doubt that in the coming few days we might hear members of the EFF descending because their intentions of being with the EFF is not to go back to the ANC.

Mathekga says the EFF's performance in the local government election was less than mediocre. The results were no where near the expectations they claimed leading up to the elections.

The EFF is now realising that they will not achieve political power on their own.

He added that the ANC might be having a crisis in terms of leadership but South Africans do not see an alternative in the form of the EFF.

I think the ANC has a breathing space and Julius just nearly confirmed that.

Meanwhile EFF has released a statement criticising the way the eNCA Checkpoint interview has been edited and presented on air.

The EFF notes with regret the deliberate and malicious propaganda spread by eNCA’s sensationalist journalist Nkepile Mabuse of Checkpoint who portrayed President Malema as wanting a merger between the EFF and the ANC. The EFF would like to state categorically that this is a distortion of the truth which Ms Nkepile Mabuse knowingly manufactured from the onset.
