Cape Talk Weekly Highlights 15-19 September

Faith healing has come under the spotlight following the building collapse in Nigeria that claimed over 60 South African lives. How does it work? Is it simply mind over matter? Prof. Ernst Conradie from the religious studies department at UWC joined John to talk it through.

John crossed to Erika Gibson, Senior Specialist Reporter for Media 24, who broke the story of a mysterious business jet, registered in the US and carrying nearly $9.3 million (R102 million) in cash, landed at Lanseria International Airport, last week. A riveting narrative. You can’t make this stuff up.

Times Media’s Ray Hartley joined John in studio to talk about his new book on the modern South African story called ‘Ragged Glory’. In two turbulent decades, South Africa has won its place at the table of free nations, but has lost its moral authority.

“Sexism is not something that people like talking about; it makes us feel uncomfortable, and that’s exactly why we need to start talking about it.” Hear this matric learner speak to John who possesses a better grasp of gender issues than most of us.

Research Unit was hailed as the Cape Talk and Sage One Small Business Awards winner at a gala event held in Cape Town. Owners, Chad and Erin-Lee Petersen, stood out amongst the 30 finalists for their service excellence during a three week nomination procedure which included over 500 businesses throughout the Western Cape. Kieno spoke to an excited Erin-Lee about the award.
