The Friday Stand-In 2016

The system is rigged against black women, says Lindiwe Mazibuko

The status of women remains a talking point in society among those advocating for a more evolved society where division of labour re-define gender stereotypes.

702/Cape Talk's #FridayStandIn Lebo Ramofoko hosted Lindiwe Mazibuko and Dr Tlaleng Mofokeng about their thoughts on the issue.

Often when people want to argue that opportunities are the same for everyone, you just need to work hard. Or your gender and race doesn't matter despite your country's history, they hold up exceptions.

Lindiwe Mazibuko, former Parliamentary Leader of the Democratic Alliance

I can be a working woman, I can take my kids where they need to be so I can do things that I want to do.

Dr Tlaleng Mofokeng, vice-chairperson of Sexual and Reproduction Clinic

Mazibuko argued that being a black woman in South Africa is to be the most dispossessed demographic, as they remain vulnerable to crime and various forms of aggression in the workplace.

Mofokeng said it was through observing her mother that she began to understand a woman's space wasn't limited to the home, but could be extended to corporate life.
