Sars is under the microscope

Piet Rampedi, senior investigative journalist for the Sunday times, has spent an extensive amount of time investigating the inner workings of the South African Revenue Services (SARS). Rampedi talks to Redi about the mysterious resignations, alleged incidents of corruption involving its executive officials and other suspected irregularities at Sars.

The problems began sometime last year, that’s when we started hearing stories. That’s when we heard that there is this rogue unit that had been operating within Sars.

In November 2014 the Sunday Times revealed the news about the alleged ‘rogue unit’ within Sars. The lid was lifted on damning memos and documents on the antics of Sars unit that reportedly ran a brothel, spied on top cops and bugged politicians phones.
