These are anxious moments for Magashula's family - lawyer

Former SARS commissioner Oupa Magashula was served with a summons along with Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan and Ivan Pillay to appear in court on November 2. They will respond to a charge of fraud relating to arrangements made for Pillay’s pension payout.

Michael Tilney, attorney for Oupa Magashula, says his client was charged with two fraud charges. One of the charges relates to the allegation that Magashula was wrong in persuading the release of R1.1 million towards Pillay's pension when he was Sars commissioner. There is also an alternative theft charge.

Tilney says Magashula is relieved now that the charges have been made clear and the matter will move forward.

He says Magashula takes these charges very seriously.

Clearly he is very embarrassed, he was a very senior civil servant... these are anxious moments for him and his family.
