ANC calls on Maine to retract comments to take up arms for Zuma

African National Congress (ANC) has called on its Youth League President, Collen Maine to retract comments he made on Saturday at a "Hands off Zuma" march in eThekwini, in which he said veterans of the party must bring their guns and defend President Jacob Zuma.

ANC national spokesperson Khusela Sangoni has described comments as unfortunate, irresponsible and reckless.

Sangoni says the President still enjoys support from the majority of the South Africans and ANC members.

She says comments made by Maine have no place in a democracy.
