Minibus taxi commuters to introduce cash free system

The taxi industry in Gauteng will start using the electronic fare collection system (e-ticket) in February next year.

The new e-ticketing system will be implemented by FairPay, whose sole shareholder is the SA National Taxi Council (Santaco) commercial arm TaxiChoice.

TaxiChoice chairman, Jothan Msibi, says the cards will be distributed from the taxi ranks.

He says the system is safe because commuters will no longer have to carry cash around.

The system we are embarking on is giving us control of our money.
