Western Cape Education Department has started piloting the collaboration school model, where public schools will be partly funded by private donors.
Department head of communications, Paddy Attwell, says the department is experimenting with different approaches to increase access to quality of education in poor communities.
Attwell says parents and learners have responded well, and 'this could be a good model to follow'.
It is modeled after similar system overseas.
