Has travel within SA become to expensive for locals?

South Africans have been encouraged to make the most of local tourism and see what the country has to offer.

But recently there have been concerns expressed over the costs of traveling locally, as it has become expensive in a difficult economy.

Enver Duminy, CEO of Cape Town Tourism says the problem with South Africans is that unlike overseas visitors, locals don't have a culture of saving.

But there are places which cost less and can offer valuable experiences he adds.

The one thing we keep encouraging people on is to explore the sites of Cape Town...you don't have to stay in the CBD.

It's a supply and demand service, he says, and businesses need to make profits to put money back into the fiscas.

He urges local tourists to use platforms like Cape Town Tourism to know whats in season and which places are affordable.

He also spoke about services like Airbnb, which offers affordable accommodation in Cape Town and surrounding areas.
