WATCH: Zuma on Gordhan fraud charges, state capture report and Parly move

President Jacob Zuma faced tough questions in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) this afternoon.

During his first NCOP appearance since the municipal elections in August, Zuma answered questions about the economy and the controversial investigation into Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan.

Responding to concerns about the state of affairs in the country, and a looming junk status downgrade from credit ratings agencies, Zuma had the following to say:

On Gordhan fraud charges:

He told the NCOP that only a court can judge on the Gordhan fraud charges, adding that the minister is innocent until proven guilty.

In addition, Zuma explained that he never discussed the investigation into Gordhan with NPA boss Shaun Abrahams.

On the state capture report:

Zuma told the NCOP that he interdicted the report on state capture because former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela did not approach him for questioning.

On moving Parliament to Tshwane:

According to Zuma, the decision to relocate Parliament from Cape Town to Pretoria lies with Parliament and is not a matter for executive to decide on.

He says the Labour Department is investigating the administrative implications of such a move.
