Police union warned against Ntlemeza's appointment

South African Policing Union (SAPU) has called on Police Minister Nathi Nhleko to reverse the appointment of Lieutenant-General Berning Mthandazo Ntlemeza as head of the Hawks.

Ntlemeza has been found by the courts to be a liar and lacking integrity.

Mpho Kwinika, President of SAPU says they informed Nhleko from the start that "this is a bad appointment" and now say they have been proven correct.

He says the performance of the Hawks has declined greatly because it's been led by a man who lacks integrity, is biased and dishonest.

It will be nice if the minister takes this opportunity and self corrects.

Mpho Kwinika, President of SAPU

All these issues that are being mentioned now are issues which were picked up from the beginning. We wrote him letters and warned him about this kind of appointment and he still went ahead.
