Hawks boss mum on Gordhan and Sars at Parly briefing

Hawks head Berning Ntlemeza announced that almost 400 government officials have been convicted of corruption since 2014.

Ntlemeza, along with Sars Commissioner Tom Moyane, spoke in Parliament this morning during a briefing on the progress fighting against government fraud.

Ntlemeza told MPs 399 government officials have been arrested and convicted over the past two years, but was mum on other matters which the press had expected him to address.

EWN special correspondent, Melanie Verwoerd, says Ntlemeza appeared to dodge the subject of Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan and the investigation into him.

He absolutely totally avoided the issue of Pravin Gordhan, Sars or Treasury... They never mentioned them.

Melanie Verwoerd, EWN special correspondent

In total, corruption cases probed by the anti-corruption task team amount to more than R10 billion.
