There are 14 more weeks until Christmas Day, December 25, 2016 - which happens to fall on a Sunday this year.
It is for this reason that the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) will push for Tuesday December 27 to be declared a public holiday. Monday December 26 is observed as The Day of Goodwill, better known as Boxing Day.
Cosatu spokesperson Sizwe Pamla says they will write to the Presidency and explain that a precedent was set in 2011 when then acting President Kgalema Motlanthe acceded to the same request.
