Based number of calls received on the Redi Tlhabi show and their views, it seems more and more women wish to become stay-at-home moms. Some of their reasons were that they want to experience every development of their children's lives. These are mostly women with good jobs, some being at the top of their careers and willing to let go. And some agreed that if it wasn’t for the financial constraints they’d be at home raising their children.
Redi spoke about staying at home moms often being labelled as women who are just plain lazy but those who are currently doing it disagree. A caller in Krugersdorp kept busy by making jewellery which she sold internationally and also made jam with fruits from her backyard. All these kept her life busy while her children were at school.
Those who had the courage to leave their jobs found it to be fulfilling to see their children growing in good care.
And Gaye in Sandton believes that her involvement in her children’s lives prevented them from using drugs and that other women should consider it too.
@RediTlhabi I've been a stay-at-home dad for 2 years. Gave up working long hours in IT for my kids. Need to prioritize what's important.— LueWiki (@Luewellyn) March 9, 2015
There were some views which disagreed with staying-at-home dads
