Zille autobiography cements her place in democratic SA's political landscape

Helen Zille's autobiography titled Not without a fight documents her life story and shares intimate insights on the nature of politics in South Africa.

Not being one to shy away from a challenge, Zille has certainly made her mark in political circles by pulling up a chair at the table and speaking up.

In an interview with 702's John Robbie, the former journalist opened up about her personal life from her childhood years to working hard to changing perceptions of the Democratic Alliance while she was at the helm.

We had to move to a party of government... We had to do that to prevent South Africa from enabling one party too much power in too few hands which would lead to a failed state now recognised as state capture.

She said the decision to merge with the New National Party (NNP) proved a challenge for the DA to find a consensus on their approach to political ideals.

We had to battle for the value set of the DA and now I'm delighted to say that many people who were once with the NNP really understand what our open opportunity drive philosophy is all about.
