Corruption Watch to lay criminal charges against Tom Moyane

NGO Corruption Watch announced that it has asked the police to investigate a criminal charge against Sars Commissioner Tom Moyane.

The corruption watchdog says Moyane has failed to act decisively on the findings of the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) report detailing fraud and corruption by his deputy Jonas Makwakwa and Kelly-Ann Elskie.

David Lewis, Executive Director at Corruption Watch, says Moyane broke the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Activities Act by not reporting the matter to the police.

Secondly he was not suppose to handover the report from the FIC to anyone.

We are determined to have something happen ... we intend to follow it through to the best of our ability.

David Lewis, Executive Director at Corruption Watch

Lewis says a letter has been handed to Moyane and they await his response. Lewis noted that as head of Sars Moyane above any ordinary citizen should be brought to book for not taking evidence of corruption seriously.

If the police don't do what is required then we would look at what our legal options are.

David Lewis, Executive Director at Corruption Watch
