Meet AngloGold’s Sipho Pityana (who calls JZ ‘sponsor and chief of corruption')

The vested interests around President Jacob Zuma aren’t as powerful as the combined efforts of the South African citizenry.

Sipho Pityana, AngloGold Ashanti

It’s not only about seeing Jacob Zuma go. It’s about reasserting ethical leadership.

Sipho Pityana, AngloGold Ashanti

We need to say with a combined voice - irrespective of our party political differences - we will not tolerate corruption! We will not tolerate State Capture!

Sipho Pityana, AngloGold Ashanti

AngloGold Ashanti Chair Sipho Pityana became a household name when, earlier this month at the Mining Indaba in Johannesburg, he called President Jacob Zuma the “sponsor and chief of corruption in South Africa”.

He also went on record saying that he believes Thabo Mbeki to be one the greatest leaders South Africa has ever produced, while Jacob Zuma is one of the worst.

Who is the outspoken Pityana?

The Money Show’s Bruce Whitfield interviewed him for his weekly “ShapeShifter” feature.

Listen to the riveting interview below (and/or scroll down for more quotes from it).

I have no regrets [about speaking out].

Sipho Pityana, AngloGold Ashanti

Since he’s assumed office he’s been followed by one scandal after the other.

Sipho Pityana, AngloGold Ashanti

We need to mobilise politically.

Sipho Pityana, AngloGold Ashanti

It is a betrayal of all of us.

Sipho Pityana, AngloGold Ashanti

I don’t believe that President Jacob Zuma has a right to hand over our hard won freedom to people who are corrupt.
