Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan on Wednesday addressed Parliament and the nation, delivering a much anticipated Medium Term Budget speech.
Dr Iraj Abedian, economist with Pan African Capital says the Minister in his budget speech was simply saying let's turn growth around.
If the growth is not turned around, tax revenue will dwindle even further and government will be in a desperate position, having to borrow even more.
He was saying it is up to us to govern ourselves and our nation properly, generate confidence and give people some form of certainty that they create investments both locally and internationally.— Iraj Abedian, Executive Chairman at Pan-African Capital Holdings
Abedian says the Minister reminded the nation that the fastest growing item of government expenditure is paying interest on loans.
This are important points and he made it very accessible... he avoided jargon.— Iraj Abedian, Executive Chairman at Pan-African Capital Holdings
