South Africans having fewer babies - StatsSA

South Africa has seen a decline in babies born. Statistics South Africa (StatsSA) has released a report showing that in 2013, 1.15 million babies were born, and the number declined in 2014 to 1.14 million.

Now, the latest statistics from 2015 show that only 1.08 million were born.

EWN reporter, Barry Bateman, says Statistician General Pali Lehohla said it is reported by Stats SA that more people are using contraceptives and condoms.

Bateman says the top names from 2015 were also announced.

The top name for boys in 2015 was Junior, followed by Blessing and Gift.

And for Girls the top names are Precious, Princess and Angel.
