It's an insult to control black people's reproductive rights - Lebo Ramafoko

Can people just check their positions of power and really realise that in 2016 we are not going to allow the arrogance of understanding that our bodies and beings can be controlled, when in fact they are not going to look at the structural issues that they have caused.

Lebo Ramafoko, Soul City Institute CEO

Soul City Institute CEO, social activist and feminist, Lebo Ramafoko, gave her own bite during the Open Line on the Redi Tlhabi show with Eusebius McKaiser, responding to the view that 'people should have less children due to food and water shortages'.

She says problems such as global warming and industrialisation are products of a colonial history. It is therefore wrong to say that black people should not have so many children to accommodate the shortages, she says.

It riles me. It's an insult. I know that these things are talking about black people - about how many children they are having.

Lebo Ramafoko, Soul City Institute CEO

What is my fertility got to do with industrialisation? When are we going to get land distribution back in all of Africa, where all our land was abused?

Lebo Ramafoko, Soul City Institute CEO

This issue must stop. It must fall. People must check their positionality before they make comments.
