Zuma mustn't be forced out, he must go willingly - Nehawu

The National Health Education and Allied Workers Union (Nehawu) says President Jacob Zuma should leave office before his current term as president ends in 2019.

Nehawu is among the growing call for Zuma to vacate office, but says the union does not want him to be recalled, but rather for him to voluntarily step down.

There are nationwide marches by political parties and civil groups today calling for an end to political uncertainty, and Zuma's resignation.

Nehawu's General Secretary Bereng Soke says the union has also asked the ANC to be honourable in its internal process when electing the successor.

According to Soke, Zuma's initial appointment to the Presidency made sense at the time, but he is no longer what South Africa needs.

Soke says the country need fresh and credible leadership to tackle the many issues it faces.

He advises that Zuma's leadership has lost credibility and he is no longer able to instill trust and confidence in the citizenry.

Our country is in a serious crisis and it needs a different kind of leadership to bring our society together so we can confront the challenges like economic growth, unemployment and poverty.

Bereng Soke, Nehawu General Secretary
