Abrahams says he won't apologise to Gordhan

National Director of Public Prosecutions Shaun Abrahams has maintained that there was no political influence in his decision to charge Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan with fraud.

Abrahams also denied reports that he had met with President Jacob Zuma the day before he announced charges against Gordhan and former Sars officials Ivan Pillay and Oupa Magashula.

He also said he did not make the decision to prosecute, but only made an announcement.

EWN Reporter in Parliament, Monique Mortlock, says Abrahams has refused to apologise for charging the minister, and then subsequently withdrawing the charges.

He said, no I don't believe I owe anyone an apology. He says equality before the law applies to everyone including cabinet ministers like Gordhan, which means that if he doesn't apologise to other people who are at the lower level why should he apologise to Gordhan.
