Things changed at Sars after Moyane was appointed by Zuma: Adrian Lackay

Reports over the weekend suggest that Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan is not off the hook yet.

Gordhan could be charged again and the new charges relate to the establishment of the so-called rogue unit in 2007, when Gordhan was commissioner of Sars.

Adrian Lackay, former Sars spokesperson and co-author of 'Rogue: The Inside Story of SARS’s Elite Crime-busting Unit' spoke to Kieno Kammies about the Rogue Unit.

He says things started changing after Tom Moyane was appointed as Sars commissioner by President Jacob Zuma.

And we saw a series of events that severely tarnished the reputation of the institution like never before.

It was a systematic weakening of an independent, autonomous, revenue institution which all of us were very proud to work for and we took our duty very seriously.

The biggest concern for me was that Moyane refused to challenge any of the headlines published in the Sunday Times from October 2014 of the rogue unit within Sars...
