What would a Trump victory mean for South Africa?

The 2016 US election takes place on Tuesday 8 November in what has been described as hotly contested elections in decades. The world's most powerful nation will soon have a new leader, Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump.

Early election figures show that Hillary Clinton is slightly in the lead. But what would a Trump or Clinton victory mean for South Africa?

Prof. John Stremlau, International Relations at Wits University says when it comes to Trump, it is a bit hard to forecast because he has very little experience in foreign affairs and has had little policy discourse throughout the campaign.

It's been the worst most contentious least factually based campaign and I blame Trump for that.

Prof. John Stremlau, International Relations at Wits University

But the polling seems to be suggesting that there is clear advantage for Hillary Clinton in the body politics of America and it's evolving away from the white male dominated society to a more pluralistic inclusion of Clinton and Obama.

Prof. John Stremlau, International Relations at Wits University

He says if trump were to come to power it would have a large impact on all international relations.
