Former Wits SRC President Mcebo Dlamini is back in court appealing the Johannesburg Magistrate Court's decision to deny him bail.
Dlamini's lawyer, Advocate Dali Mpofu, has argued that the State has no case against Dlamini, and that charges are politically motivated and laughable.
Mpofu says Dlamini should be released on a warning like other Fees Must Fall activists who were arrested.
EWN reporter Victor Magwedze says Mpofu has also criticised video evidence allegedly showing Dlamini assaulting someone.
In his [Mpofu] own words, he says you cannot have someone rot in jail just simply because he looks like someone else.— Victor Magwedze, EWN reporter

Dlamini is facing five charges including malicious damage to property, assault and theft, during the protests which saw students across the country clash with police and security personnel in their demand for free higher education.
Student activists have also gathered outside the Palmridge Magistrate’s Court to support Dlamini.
