Jail time for adults who leak matric papers

Spokesperson for the basic education department, Elijah Mhlanga, says the department is looking at putting strict measures in place on the use of technology and mobile devices, particularly by people who are very close to the examination system.

This follows a maths paper that was leaked in Limpopo via Whatsapp.

Mhlanga says they have teamed up with law enforcement agencies to help them deal with people who are responsible for these type of offences.

We are looking at jail time especially for adults that are responsible for leaking the papers from our safekeeping and giving them to learners.

At the moment we are heavy handed on the learners because we ban them by giving them a year or two years from writing the Grade 12 exams.
