No-confidence motion a tough test for ANC's vocal Zuma critics - Karima Brown

Seasoned journalist and political analyst Karima Brown predicts that President Zuma's critics within the ANC will face scrutiny for their action or inaction during today's vote of no confidence debate.

The DA has tabled a fresh motion of no confidence in Zuma after the release of the state capture report last week.

Members of Parliament (MPS) can either vote yes, vote no, or abstain.

Brown says vocal ANC MPs, such as chief whip Jackson Mthembu will have to somehow pass the bar of credibility.

She says the public will be watching Zuma's critics closely, and they will have to manage the public perception if they are seen as meek MPs who take no action.

They are running the very high risk of speaking in code to the public, and speaking to their membership.

They will have to find a way to transcend the perception that they are meek sheep and that they are not prepared to stand up to President Zuma.

It is expected that most ANC MPs will vote no, abstain or be absent from the sitting.

It's widely expected that ANC MPs won't give credence to an opposition-led motion.

Meanwhile, EFF leader Julius Malema said the motion was a bad idea as it would unite opposing ANC factions.
