Suzman Foundation and Freedom Under Law joins call to have NPA boss suspended

10 November 2016 1:38 PM
The Helen Suzman Foundation says Shaun Abrahams did not follow due process in bringing these charges against Finance Minister.

The Helen Suzman foundation and Freedom Under Law announced that there will be approaching the courts to force President Jacob Zuma to suspend national Director of Public Prosecutions, Shaun Abrahams.

This follows a decision by the NPA to charge and later withdraw the charges against Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan.

Kimera Chetty, Legal Researcher for the Helen Suzman Foundation says Abrahams did not follow due process in bringing these charges against Finance Minister and now shifting blame on other people.

He had a duty that he failed in ... we think he needs to be suspended and an inquiry into his fitness in office be held.

The foundation is hopeful that the court will be able to see how this matter has played out, and take note of the delaying tactics employed by both the Presidency and NPA on the matter.

The foundation is currently in talks with the Presidency though its lawyers and hope that there will be cooperative response.
