Murder hits on Noorudien Hassan and hotel manager could be linked - expert

Policing expert Eldred de Klerk says there could be a potential connection between the murders of prominent Cape Town attorney Noorudien Hassan and a hotel manager this week.

Hassan, who represented several alleged Western Cape gangsters, was shot multiple times while in a car outside his Lansdowne home on Monday night.

The next day, hotel manager Craig Mathieson was shot dead at a Sea Point hotel owned by controversial businessman Mark Lifman, who had ties with some of Hassan's clients.

The associations seem to suggest that this is linked to the same case that Noorudien Hassan was investigating or at least defending.

Eldred de Klerk, policing expert

De Klerk says there are signs that both killings may be organised hits.

He says that Hassan's murder is most likely related to his line of work and described his death as an attack on the legal system.

In an interview with EWN last week, the prominent defence lawyer said he feared an attempt on his life.

De Klerk maintains that everyone deserves the best legal defence they can get, regardless of the charges levelled against them.

He says police must thoroughly investigate the murders and make convictions purely on the basis of evidence.

In both cases, there have been no arrests yet.

De Klerk has sent condolences to both families and their loved ones.

Take a listen to Eldred de Klerk's theory:
