Deputy President of the Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (Denosa), Modise Letsatsi, says some nursing colleges fail to teach correct courses prescribed by the Nursing Council.
Letsatsi was responding to The Times report that the Nursing Council is failing to give accreditation to colleges providing nursing training.
He says it's not clear what is preventing the Nursing Council from issuing accreditation, but says some of the existing nursing colleges do not teach students the correct prescribed curriculum.
Letsatsi says government has committed to reopen some of the nursing colleges that have been closed to address the problem of shortages.
