Ipid head Robert McBride insists there is no case against him

Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) head, Robert McBride, says there is no case against him as the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has failed to prosecute him due to lack of evidence.

Police Minister Nathi Nhleko has again asked Parliament to establish an inquiry into McBride, saying Parliament never acted on the Constitutional Court ruling allowing it to decide whether to proceed with the inquiry.

It's under the same leadership that you have the Hawks, Sars and Ipid being affected. It's by the same unit which is in existence under General Berning Ntlemeza. Crimes against the State yet not one single person charged or investigated by crimes against the State has committed any crime against the State.

Robert McBride, Ipid head

McBride says the charges against former Hawks boss Anwa Dramat and Major General Shadrack Sibiya, which are connected to the illegal rendition of four Zimbabwean nationals in 2010, will also be dropped.

I can guarantee you and put my head on the block that the case against General Dramat and General Sibiya will collapse and be dropped.

Robert McBride, Ipid head

McBride was prosecuted on charges of fraud and defeating the ends of justice on the renditions of Zimbabwean's.

In October, the Constitutional Court ruled that Nhleko had no authority to suspend McBride.

The Constitutional Court gave Parliament 30 days to look into Nhleko’s complaint against the Ipid head but that deadline lapsed without Parliament looking into the issue. McBride then returned to work.
