'Jacob Zuma is prepared to fight; despite losing the moral and legal argument'

We’ve seen how a divided ANC undermines the programme of redressing the past.

All indications are that President Jacob Zuma, and those who support him, are prepared to fight, despite losing the moral and legal argument.

The President might be so bitter that he’ll punish all those he sees as opponents while rewarding those who supported him. He may also use state agencies to pursue his opponents.

African National Congress (ANC) National Executive Committee (NEC) members have now been asked to state whether or not they want President Jacob Zuma to step down.

According to EWN reporter Clement Manyathela, 34 members have said the President should step down, 30 members are in favour of Zuma staying in office and 14 have yet to speak out.

It is believed that three members of the NEC, Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan, Human Settlements Minister Lindiwe Sisulu and Trade and Industry Minister Rob Davies, have left the meeting.

The NEC meeting follows Tourism Minister Derek Hanekom's motion of no-confidence against Zuma.

The Money Show’s Bruce Whitfield interviewed Lumkile Mondi (Senior Lecturer at School of Economics and Business Science of the University of the Witwatersrand) and political analyst Somadoda Fikeni (Unisa).

Mondi and Fikeni discussed the ANC NEC debate on Zuma’s fate.

The situation may get worse before it gets better.
