WC Education to probe Stellenbosch pupil assault caught on camera

Western Cape Education Department has launched an investigation after a video surfaced of a Stellenbosch schoolgirl being assaulted by another pupil.

The department has also strongly condemned the bullying incident, saying it will take disciplinary action against the attacker.

In a video clip a pupil is seen attacking another, and repeatedly slamming the victim's face and head against her knees.

In an interview earlier this year, educational psychologist at Family Life Centre, Claudia Abelheim, said children need to be taught how to handle everyday conflict.

She said children do not understand conflict as clearly as adults do, and they can physically hurt their siblings, friends or schoolmates when trying to express their feelings.
