John Berks ("the least amiable man on radio") hilariously opens up about money

5 December 2016 8:09 PM
What does 702’s former Breakfast Show host John Berks believe, hope for and fear about money? Does he have, and want, lots of it?

Who listens to this show besides Sars?

John Berks

If you have health you have everything! You hear me?

John Berks

Never laugh off a dream.

John Berks

Every week The Money Show’s Bruce Whitfield interviews a famous person about her or his attitude to money (hopes and fears, successes and failures, etc.) as part of his weekly “Make Money Mondays” feature.

This week Whitfield interviewed John Berks.

Berks is a former Breakfast Show host on 702.

His “Who’s who” page describes him as “the least amiable man on South African commercial radio”.

But what does he believe about money?

Listen to the hilarious interview in the audio below (and/or scroll down for more quotes from it).

I know nothing about finance!

John Berks

I still write the occasional cheque.

John Berks

I wouldn’t call myself a cheapskate.

John Berks

I believe money is the root of all evil.

John Berks

Money doesn’t bring happiness!

John Berks

My mom was in charge of money. She will turn 104 in a couple of months’ time.

John Berks

My father was a struggling man. He was a scrap metal merchant. But my mom ran a successful little store.

John Berks

We had enough money [growing up]. I wasn’t raised to believe that money was everything. We didn’t need money. We made our own toys.

John Berks

My first job was as a factory hand. I offloaded animal fat.

John Berks

This station can’t fire me; even if I do things wrong!
