I watch my metaphors a bit more carefully now, says Zapiro

Satirical cartoonists Zapiro has had his fair share of praise and criticism for his cartoons which reflect on local politics and current affairs.

Zapiro has dropped his 21st annual volume of cartoons, titled Dead President Walking.

He says the theme of the year for a majority of his cartoons has been state capture, using his medium to provide political commentary.

Zapiro remembers some of the cartoons that pushed the envelope and caused a stir this year, two of which portrayed Bok coach Allister Coetzee and NPA boss Shaun Abrahams.

He says he has faced a great deal of disapproval for some of his cartoons, and pays more attention to the types of metaphors he uses in his sketches now.

It's a bit enchaining. I try rationalise it as emotional intelligence, instead of self-censorship of the issue.
