Blocked intersections a serious problem, says City

Being stuck in gridlock traffic is never fun.

What makes it even more excruciating is when other drivers decide to block traffic intersections when there is no room to exit on the other side.

Motorists get stuck in the middle when the traffic lights change, building up congestion and adding to the delay.

The City of Cape Town's assistant traffic chief Paul Oliver says officials are placed at known problematic intersections.

He explains that there is a plan to use CCTV footage to deploy traffic enforcement and to fine those who block intersections.
