Radebe reassures and congratulates SA over dodging junk status

Top of the agenda at today's Post Cabinet briefing was the economy and ongoing efforts to protect South Africa's credit rating.

Minister in the Presidency Jeff Radebe congratulated citizens and government for saving the country from a downgrade to junk status. reports EWN's Barry Bateman.

This comes after after all three major rating agencies kept South Africa's investment-grade status unchanged.

Radebe said government has noted some of the concerns raised by credit ratings agencies, including political instability.

He says these concerns are being addressed and that initiatives are being put in place so that South Africa turns the economy around.

The minister says significant foreign direct investment this year is an indication that our economy is on the road to recovery.

Radebe also fielded questions about President Jacob Zuma's leadership and the crisis at universities.
