Top 10 #FridayStandIn hosts and fun moments

27 December 2016 1:46 PM
We've been featuring interesting personalities as guest presenters on the Redi Tlhabi show. It's time to recount some key moments

Radio 702 and CapeTalk have been featuring interesting personalities as special guest presenters on the Redi Tlhabi show.

All #FridayStandIn hosts brought their unique perspectives, creativity and analysis to current affairs and systematic challenges facing South Africa.

We have had close to 40 individuals including academics, activists, musicians, journalists, television personalities, entrepreneurs, artists, and writers.

Let's take a look back at some of the stand-out moments during our 2016 #FridayStandIn season.

1. Founder of DNA Brand Architects and former head of marketing at Nando’s, Sylvester Chauke

Sylvester successfully facilitated a sensitive topic, talking about homosexuality in the workplace.

He spiced it all up with a dance to Beyonce's 'Single Ladies'! Twitterville was on fire, #FridayStandIn was trending for three hours.

2. Stellenbosch University, Political Sciences Masters graduate, Lovelyn Nwadeyi, talked about race and gender issues.

She had a moving conversation on rape culture in South African universities with Research Associate at Wits Institute for Social and Economic Research, Lisa Vetten, and Rhodes Masters student and writer of ''A Rapist State’s Children: Jacob Zuma & Chumani Maxwele' article, Fezokuhle Mthonti.

Lovelyn now hosts Night Talk on 702 every Friday.

3. Journalist and political analyst Karima Brown

Karima had a conversation with former Foreign Affairs director general and AngloGold chairman, Sipho Pityana, as well as Judge Johan Kriegler about the state of politics in South Africa.

The interview followed Pityana's speech at Minister Makhenkesi Stofile’s funeral where he expressed his discontent with President Jacob Zuma.

Pityana was one of the first ANC members to publicly speak against the President.

4. Psychoanalyst and farmer Professor Mark Holms brought two interesting topics to his show, reconciliation and land reform

He shared insights on agriculture and land redistribution, with specific focus on his family wine farm, Solms Delta, which empowers previously disadvantaged farm workers through co-ownership.

5. Gil Oved's show was epic!

The South African entrepreneur and co-host of M-Net Shark Tank was joined by three of the four other Sharks, Romeo Kumalo, Marnus Broodryk and Dawn Nathan-Jones, to talk entrepreneurship challenges and success insights.

6. Spindoctor Chris Vick, set Twitter alight with the music, while talking politics with listeners

During the last hour of the show, he interviewed Advocate Dali Mpofu about his take on elections and post-elections decisions made by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).

7. Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of the Witwatersrand Professor Adam Habib

Habib had moving conversations on human relations, state of South African universities and inter-generational communication around the decolonisation student movements.

8. Social activist, feminist and CEO at Soul City Institute, Lebo Ramafoko

Lebo hosted Lindiwe Mazibuko and Dr. Tlaleng Mofokeng about their thoughts on black women's struggles and issues.

9. Ugandan star Leslie Kasumba had a chilled and informative show

She talked about being an African, and had a profile interview with Nigerian-born artist Tiwa Savage.

10. Owner of the Redi Tlhabi show herself

Redi Tlhabi was the #FridayStandIn after a three months break off-air. She had a special interview with former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela.
