SA stars laid to rest this year

2016 has been a difficult year on many fronts, including the number of untimely deaths experienced in the entertainment arena.

South Africans said goodbye to many influential artists, actors and athletes this year.

Here's a look back.

  • Kwaito heavyweight Mandoza

South African kwaito star Mduduzi ‘Mandoza’ Tshabalala died in September, after his battle with cancer.

The hitmaker was best known for his tracks 'Nkalakatha', 'Godoba' and 'Tornado'.

  • Veteran actor Nyembezi Kunene

Legend actor and director Nyembezi Kunene died in June this year after a prolonged illness.

He played ‘ Uncle Jabulani' in popular soapie Generations and ‘Macingwane' in the hit TV drama Emzini Wezinsizwa.

  • Race star Gugu Zulu

Passionate race car driver Gugu Zulu died while attempting to summit Mount Kilimanjaro in July.
