Someone must be held responsible for what happened at Marikana - Amcu

13 December 2016 1:24 PM
Amcu wants independent commission of inquiry, not happy with results of Farlam Commission, believes State should be implicated.

The Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) held a press conference in Johannesburg on Tuesday to respond to an announcement by government that families of Marikana victims will be compensated.

EWN reporter Gis Niccolaides says Amcu president Joseph Mathunjwa wants an independent commission organised by the UN to find out what really happened at Marikana.

Mathunjwa said that he feels there are higher levels within the state who need to be held accountable for what happened at Marikana.

He believes that because the State is implicated in some way or the other about the violence and the killings, therefore the State cannot run the commission.

The don't feel the Farlam Commission did enough to address issues on that higher level.
