Former WC top cop suspicious over his 'arbitrary' redeployment

Senior police officer Jeremey Veary is embroiled in a labour dispute over his alleged demotion within the ranks in the Western Cape Saps.

Veary and former crime intelligence head Peter Jacobs were apparently demoted from their management positions without reason and want their jobs back.

Veary, commander of the Western Cape police's anti-gang unit, had earlier this year accused gang leaders and politicians of launching a smear campaign against him.

The two senior cops have asked for transfer and deployment records from Saps authorities, but the courts found that no such records exist.

Veary says there was no rationale or record of the decision to transfer him and his colleague.

He says their transfers cannot be performance related as, as their performance reviews have been positive.

He explains that his past in fight organised crime and gangsterism and work in work in high-level investigations is wasted on his new role.

Veary says he is prepared to see the legal action until the end.
