Bungalow restaurant feels the heat after referring to patrons as "2 Blacks"

Communications manager at the Bungalow restaurant in Clifton, Micheline Lowe, says the restaurant has a clear policy of non-discrimination on bases of gender or race. She says the policy strictly applies to all their employees, costumers and associates.

This follows a till slip which made rounds on social media which described two patrons that dined at the restaurant as “2 blacks”.

We have a standing standard operating procedure in place. Unfortunately, this was used by a waiter as shorthand, as a way of him identifying his customers. This is in no way a procedure we have at Bungalow...

Micheline Lowe, Communications manager at the Bungalow

Lowe says the waiter was a person of colour but the matter will not be handled differently because of this. She says additional training has been put in place to reinforce the procedures and systems at the restaurant.

It has happened and we have tried to correct the matter. That is not the way we do things, we have table numbers.
