EWN's inside story on Motsoeneng's alleged tender rigging

EWN has received documents which implicate former SABC executive Hlaudi Motsoeneng in significant procurement fraud, reveals reporter Ilze-Marie Le Roux.

Documents and board minutes were submitted by a whistle-blower, alleging that Motsoeneng and SABC acting CEO James Aguma cancelled a legitimate tender in favour of a suspicious alternative.

It's alleged that a valid tender for refurbishing a studio was abruptly cancelled and awarded to a company called Vision View, at an over inflated cost.

The documents allege that a R100 million legally-approved deal was cancelled to refurbish studios at the SABC. This was done in collusion to cancel that contract and give it to another company at another price.

Acting group executive of risk government Tian Olivier was apparently suspended after raising red flags about the alleged irregularities in a letter to the board - which never made it all the way to the top.

Le Roux also explains that the head of Vision View is alleged to be a close friend of Motsoeneng.

Meanwhile, Save Our SABC coalition's Kate Skinner says the ongoing SABC board inquiry has appeared to have opened the floodgates exposing widespread fraud at the public broadcaster.
