Tourism minister commends dramatic recovery for SA's visitor stats

Tourism Minister Derek Hanekom says he and the industry are delighted by the latest tourism figures released by Statistics South Africa.

Stats SA reports that one million more visitors came to the country in the first 10 months of 2016 than compared to the same period in the previous year.

Hanekom explains that visitor figures for October 2016 are 13.7% up since last year.

He says the numbers are a positive indicator for the economy and employment opportunities.

According to Hanekom, overseas arrivals have consistently increased - in particular China.
