The beautifully bizarre story that gave this gay couple their baby triplets

South African same-sex couple Christo and Theo Menelaou will be spending their first Christmas with their miracle babies Joshua, Zoe and Kate.

The fathers welcomed their surrogate newborns in July this year after defying many odds.

Christo Menelaou tells the story of how he and his partner struggled with the adoption process and then found a surrogate mother while testifying in the Oscar Pistorius trial.

He recalls all the complications and challenges which would later result in the miraculous birth of their surprise triplets - prematurely, no less!

The couple have been together for 10 years and married for over four.

Christo says he and his husband are ready for the new chapter as dads with their children, after two health scares.

It's something we wanted and prayed for. It's time to live up the promises we made and be good parents... give them the best education, upbringing and love. I'm a witness of pure happiness.
