How to avoid overspending on Christmas goodies

Consumer journalist, Wendy Knowler, says last minute Christmas shopping can make people overspend as they are in a rush trying to buy all they need in a limited time frame.

Here is her advice on how to avoid turning January into Jan-worry...

  1. Have a budget- decide how much you want to spend, and stick to it.

  2. It's too late to do online shopping - you will probably receive your delivery after Christmas.

  3. Avoid taking metered taxis or Uber - if you have drunk too much alcohol, ask a friend for a lift, or take a minibus taxi.

  4. Make an agreement with family on how much to spend on gifts - you don't need to go completely wild to prove you love each other.
