New app to detect hearing loss

University of Pretoria has developed a new app which uses a smartphone to detect hearing loss.

HearScreen is a proudly South African app developed at the University of Pretoria which uses a smartphone to detect hearing loss.

Lead inventor of HearScreen, Professor De Wet Swanepoel, says they have developed the app for health professionals to screen young people, as well as another free app that can be downloaded on iOS or Android platform.

This app is called HearZA, and this app is a free download. You get it on your phone. You can do a HEARING test, which takes about 4 minutes.

It gives you a very accurate indication of whether you have a hearing problem or not.

Swanepoel says the app will help people avoid life long consequences of hearing loss.
