Eskom's right to cut power to municipalities is unconstitutional - Afriforum

AfriForum has applied for an urgent interdict in the High Court in Pretoria to stop Eskom from cutting electricity to five municipalities who owe it money.

EWN reporter, Barry Bateman, says Afriforum's argument is that by cutting the electricity supply Eskom would be punishing law abiding citizens who are paying their accounts.

They are saying this is unconstitutional and unfair - saying people should not be punished for poorly managed municipalities.

Afriforum argues that Eskom has other mechanisms to recover the money owed to it.

According to Bateman, Afriforum made it clear that they are doing this on behalf of the residents and not the municipal councils.
