Umalusi needs to show evidence for adjusting matric marks - DA

Democratic Alliance (DA) shadow minister of Basic Education, Gavin Davis, says the assurance body Umalusi needs to provide evidence for adjusting marks.

Davis says 32 of the 58 National Senior Certificates subjects written by the matric class of 2016 were adjusted, and 28 were adjusted upwards.

I'm not questioning standardisation at all. I think it's necessary to ensure year-on-year that marks are equitable. All I'm doing is raising questions on methodology used in this matric year, and especially the impact on learners.

Gavin Davis, DA shadow minister of Basic Education

When I wrote the letter, I did so on the basis of a substantive issue. It had nothing to do with politics, and everything to do with the integrity of the examination board.
